Tom was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa. He attended Dowling High School, studied English at the University of Iowa and received his law degree with honors from Drake University Law School in 1988.
Tom is married to Elizabeth Flansburg; who is also a practicing attorney. Tom and Beth have two children; James a senior at Dowling High School and Emily a Sixth Grader at Holy Trinity School.
When he is not working, Tom enjoys running, bike riding, playing softball and reading.
